The Old Place Restaurant is back in business!

Back in 1970, Tom and Barbara Runyon opened up the Old Place in a sleepy part of the mountains known as Cornell, CA. The locals welcomed the addition and quickly made it their own. Soon thereafter, it was discovered by a rebellious Hollywood crowd and a certain lore began to develop that spread through the local area like wildfire. With Steve McQueen cooking in the back, Jason Robards and Burgess Merideth drinking at the bar, and Dolly Parton singing by the Piano, the Old Place became a destination like no other. Never advertised, the Old Place became a very "insider experience." Tom only served Steaks ( cooked over an open fire stoked with Red Oak from the local mountains that he and his son, Morgan, cut by hand), Clams and Baked Potatoes. The workings of the Old Place became just as famous as the people that walked through its doors.

Tom was the cook and Barbara was the waitress. Tom kept cooking until he reached 89 years of age and then one day he went home with the intention of not coming back. The wind left his sails immediately. It seems that it was his love for his family and the commitment he made to his customers that kindled his fire. He knew that he had prepared his family, he was smart with his money, and always worked hard. His kids had each created their own families, and his wonderful wife Barbara was tired of showing up each week and wanted to take a break. Tom Passed away on July 17th, 2009. Tom's son Morgan and I have partnered up, and we have re-opened the Old Place. We simply dusted her off, keeping the charm. We did triple the menu however-- from 2 to 6 items. On September 3rd, 2009 we opened the doors. We have not looked back since. Each night we have filled the place and they keep coming back. Please join us for a memorable experience by stepping back in time, to a time when things weren't so flashy, and good was good.
